Cyndy Karras, PhD

Assistant Professor of Practice

As an Assistant Professor of Practice at the UT Lab School, Cyndy works closely with children and families to provide a high-quality and nurturing environment for children to build their social and emotional resume, a critical component to children’s future academic success. Cyndy has extensive experience in the field of early childhood including: serving as a child care center director, a research specialist for the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, a lecturer in UT’s Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, and as a project manager for a national study the National Center for Research on Early Childhood Education (NCRECE) in New York City.

Prior to returning to the UT Lab School, Cyndy founded L.E.A.P | Leading Educators and Parents Consulting | LLC to empower early childhood professionals with the knowledge and tools critical to facilitating children’s cognitive and social-emotional well-being. She provides professional development presentations, workshops, and mentoring and educational opportunities for early childhood professionals in the non-profit, private, and public sectors.

Cyndy received her doctorate from UT Austin in Human Development in Family Sciences. She holds a master’s degree from New York University in Educational Psychology and a bachelor’s degree from Texas State University in Broadcast Journalism.

When she is not working, Cyndy enjoys traveling, cooking, and practicing the art of being a parent with her son and husband.
